The slap shot is not the most accurate, but if you are shooting from long range it provides extra power.

DID YOU KNOW?

A goal is scored only when the entire puck crosses over the red goal line. Even if most of the puck is across the line, but the back end of it is on the line, it is not a goal.

15: DEFLECTIONS AND SCREENS

Sometimes you can score a goal without taking a shot. By positioning yourself near the goal, you can score on a deflection. An ideal spot to be is on either side of the goal. You can redirect any shot headed wide toward the goal. Take a wide stance for stability and hold your stick firmly on the ice. When a shot comes your way, angle your stick blade so it can deflect the puck toward the goal. You can also score on a rebound from this position. If a shot bounces off the goalie, you will be there to flip the puck into the net.

You can also create a goal without even touching the puck. Do this by screening the goalie. Goalies can’t block shots they can’t see. You can stand in front of the goalie, as long as you are not in the crease. Stand with your back to the goalie so you can see the action. But be aware that opponents don’t like you trying to block their goalie’s vision. Be prepared for body contact!
